Chester County, Pennsylvania

Welcome to East Caln Township
Chester County, Pennsylvania

East Caln Township was created in 1728 in the center of Chester County along the Lancaster Turnpike, which is now U.S. Rt. 30.  East Caln is one of the oldest Townships in the County. The Township is 4.4 square miles in area and the 2004 U.S. Census estimates a reflected population of 3,166.  The governing body of the Township is an elected three member Board of Supervisors.  The Township provides an impressive mix of residential opportunities from estate-size homes, variable size single-family homes, town homes and a full range of apartments.  Commercial shopping is plentiful and includes Brandywine Square, Ashbridge Square, Cornerstone Center on the Rt. 30 corridor and smaller retail and commercial tenants along the Boot Road Corridor.  Retail sales run the full spectrum that includes automobiles, clothing, furniture, crafts, office supplies, sporting goods, and large modern grocery stores.  The Township offers easy access to east-west and north-south highway systems , public transportation and rail service through the Downingtown Train Station which allows access to SEPTA and AMTRAK.

For Your Information...

Interested in Voluteering on a Committee or Commission ?

Your township has a number of committees and commissions and special task forces that are staffed by volunteers.  At various times there is a need to find new members for these positions.  In order to facilitate the finding of new members the township maintains a human resources file of people that would be willing to serve the township.

Building Safety Week Information

Smoke Detectors - building safety codes require smoke detectors inside each bedroom and in the common areas of each level of the home, including the basement, to warn occupants of smoke and fire.

Stair Rails - building safety codes address the size and space of stair rails to prevent children from falling through stair railings (guards) or getting their head stuck.  They also protect the general population by regulating the height of the stair guards.

Emergency Escape & Rescue Openings - building safety coes require ALL basements and sub-grade bedrooms to have at least one emergency escape and rescue opening to the outside.  Interior stairways and egress through garages DO NOT count as Emergency Escape & Rescue Openings.

Ground Fault Interrupters - building safety codes require (GFCI's) in kitchen, bath, garage, basements and outdoor outlets.  These units turn off the power to the outlet before someone can be harmed by an electrical short in the circuit.

Scald Protection - building safety codes require that showers be equipped with anti-scald valves to prevent injury.
